New Forest Section
This Section is
specially for members with an interest in the New Forest. The
lectures and meetings are aimed at promoting
interest in and furthering knowledge of the area's unique natural
archaeological and local history features.
We carry out field studies
in natural history and archeology and keep a close watch on all forms of
development in the area. Rescue and research excavations are undertaken. An
Annual Report is published in the same format as the Newsletter and distributed
to all members.
Annual General Meeting
The 2008 AGM took place on Friday 4th April 2008 at 7.30 pm
at the New Forest Museum, Lyndhurst.
The proposal put forward was that the New Forest Section be wound up with effect from
31/12 /08. N.B. since the information about the AGM was first
posted on 25th March, members of the Avon Valley Archaeological Society decided that they
did not wish to merge with the New Forest Section.
Jack Sturgess, the Chairman, reports that:
We had a good turnout for the AGM on Friday, including three former presidents, Jude
James, Dave Allen and Peter Roberts. The meeting was good natured and there were
no recriminations. The outcome was as anticipated: the majority of those voting were in
favour of winding up the present NF section, though there were a larger number of
abstentions and one vote against. Dave Allen and Tony King stressed the importance of
any new NF group maintaining good relations with HFC. Following the resolution it was
suggested that those members interested in joining a new group could discuss the
matter after the meeting, which they duly did, considering a paper prepared by
Anthony Pasmore.
