Local History Section

The aim of this section is to encourage and promote the study of local history in Hampshire, both through the section's own activities and by support of, and liason with, individual local history societies throughout the county.

We organize an annual conference and AGM in the Autumn usually with the help of a local society, a Summer outing, and a Spring symposium as well as other occasional courses and events.

Events in 2009

Spring Symposium - The Spring Symposium, on 25th April 2009, was on 'Crime and Punishment'; details of the programme are still available.

Summer Outing on Saturday 25th July will visit Boarhunt and Southwick churches and Southwick Park.

The AGM & Conference will be held in Odiham on 10 October 2009.

Articles in the Newsletter include book reviews, details of new accessions in the Hampshire Record Office and new local publications, and brief pieces on aspects of Hampshire's history.

Events in 2010

Annual Lecture: Dr John Chandler will give a lecture on:
'''Roades Very Stony, Narrow and Steep'': Early Travellers to Hampshire'
It will be held in the Hampshire Record Office, 7.30 for 8.00 p.m.

The Section has close ties with the Hampshire Record Office and with the local history section of the County Library.
